Doctoral School

The Sheffield Hallam Doctoral School provides a rich and vibrant research environment for the University’s doctoral researchers.

Doctoral researchers have full access to our well-equipped research infrastructure, as befitting the requirements of their discipline – including desks, computing equipment, extensive library resources and multi-million pound laboratory and practice-related spaces.

Supervision is provided from our world-leading and internationally-excellent academic staff, who develop doctoral researchers’ knowledge, understanding and skills, and share the techniques and professional networks cultivated through their own cutting edge research.  Pastoral support is also provided, alongside academic guidance.

Community and engagement are important aspects of the Sheffield Hallam doctoral experience.  Researchers are welcomed into both the doctoral and wider research community, where they can meet, share and collaborate with hundreds of fellow researchers, with a diverse range of research interests.  Doctoral researchers are viewed as the lifeblood of the University’s research community, and are considered active partners in their own and the community’s development.

Doctoral researchers also undertake professional development through individually-tailored research training, enabling access to a wealth of development opportunities which support the production of excellent research and enhance employability.
